These are great - keep it up. I am enjoying reading them now that I am more or less caught up.

I think you should have a master list of posts with dates on the cover page, I know some blogs don't do that, but it would make it easier to find things and for those who are starting out to catch up.

Would be interested in more on how different people reacted to the changes in the Congo in the 1960s.

Fascinating, and at the same time, sadly disconcerting, to read these postings from the 1960's and see how contemporaneous the news is with what's happening almost 50 years later!

Thanks for sharing your compelling stories and photography!

any way there could be footnotes on some of the names? Some of them I sort of recognize but don't always know what of if there is significance later. My knowledge of African history (even recent) is jumpled at best!)

Were the hippos in the fishing village a different variety than the ones where your vehicle was stuck in the mud?
Hi, Kim,
Same species, I suspect, though probably they were juveniles. The Africans seemed unafraid of them and shooed them away. Hippos are herbivores so not likely to be looking for a meal. In fact, it was dark as we made our way to the head man's house. I looked over, saw something strange, thought first, "What's that?" then, "Wow! Hippos!" And I hurried on!
Thanks for sharing the trip with me!
